A Condor Airbus A320-200, registration D-AICN performing flight DE-6225 from Fuerteventura,CI (Spain) to Paderborn (Germany) with 170 people on board, was on final approach to Paderborn around 23:35L (21:35Z) when the crew could not see the runway lights or runway and went around. The airplane entered a holding for about 10 minutes before commencing a second approach to Paderborn that ended in a safe landing.

The airport reported, that the runway lights are not continuously turned on during the night and switched on only upon arriving or departing traffic. There had been a communication problem between tower and crew, therefore the runway lights had not been turned on.

Passengers reported the crew announced they could not see the runway lights and therefore went around. After arrival border police mentioned there had been a fire alarm at the tower.

Also ich glaub wenn nicht viel los ist, werden die Lichter aufjedenfall gedimmt....

Es gab mal nen sehr geiles Tuifly Video.. Pizza Taxi nach Olbia oder so, wo die Crew im Approach auf die 14L in CGN den Controller gefragt hat, ob er doch mal das Licht ausmachen kann

Kann ich mir schon vorstellen. Da lässt sich bestimmt eine Menge Strom sparen. Die Intensität der Befeuerung wird ja schließlich auch den Witterungsbedingungen angepasst.

In USA ist teilweise an mittelgroßen Regionalairports (selbst bei KPBI bzw. KFLL selber erlebt gegen Mitternacht) bis zu kleinen int. Airports sogar niemand nachts aufm Turm ist und die Lichter werden über Funk im Selbstbedienungsmodus und Zeitschaltuhr aktiviert:

Funktaste 3 mal drücken: Dimmed lights, kein Approach leadin oder Blitze
Funktaste 5 mal drücken: Medium Lights, Approach lead in, ohne Blitze
Funktaste 7 mal drücken: Festbeleuchtung

Man sollte nur nicht bei kleinen Flugplätzen so schlau sein, wie Boris erzählte, nach dem Start Lichter ausmachen, weil teilweise bei den lütten airports 3 oder 4 Plätze eine Frequenz teilen

Ansonsten, naja sowas passiert halt mal, wie heißt es so schön, sh.. happens
