Xiamen Airlines Boeing 737-800, registration B-5306
performing flight MF-8377 from Hangzhou to Nanning (China), was climbing
out of Hangzhou about 20 minutes into the flight when the crew noticed
the cabin pressure was rapidly decreasing. The crew initiated an
emergency descent reaching 10000 feet a short time later, when they
discovered a left hand overwing emergency exit was indicated open. The
crew returned to Hangzhou where the airplane landed safely about 40
minutes after departure.
The passenger sitting next to the left
hand overwing emergency exit told the crew, that he had been curious and
thought better to try out how to open the door in case of an emergency
and therefore had pulled the handle.
Chinese Police took the man
into custody for a 5 day detention.
