ZitatIncident: Cargolux B744 and US Airways A319 at Anchorage on May 21st 2010, near collision
By Simon Hradecky, created Friday, May 28th 2010 10:19Z, last updated Friday, May 28th 2010 15:18ZA Cargolux Boeing 747-400, registration LX-TCV performing flight CV-658 from Anchorage,AK to Chicago O'Hare,IL (USA) with 2 crew, took off Anchorage's runway 25R a few minutes past midnight local time.
At the same time a US Airways Airbus A319-100, registration N810AW performing flight US-140 from Phoenix,AZ to Anchorage,AK (USA) with 138 people on board, was on final approach to Anchorage's runway 14, when the airplane went around from low height.
As a result the separation between the two aircraft reduced to 100 feet vertical and 0.3nm lateral.
The FAA said, that the NTSB have opened an investigation and dispatched investigators to Anchorage. As of current the incident can be viewed both as an operating irregularity (ATC error) or a pilot error (deviation).
The NTSB reported, that the incident happened in good visibility (10 miles visibility) in night visual conditions. The minimum separation between the two aircraft was 100 feet vertical and 0.33nm lateral. The crew of the US Airways Airbus aborted their landing due to tailwinds and requested instructions from tower. The tower cleared the aircraft to turn right to 300 degrees and to report the departing Boeing 747 in sight. When the US Airways crew reported the Boeing in sight, the Airbus was cleared to maintain visual separation, climb to 3000 feet and turn right to heading 320. The Airbus crew refused the right turn that would have taken them into direct conflict with the Boeing, subsequently the crew received a TCAS resolution advisory "Monitor vertical speed" and complied with the descent command. During the descent the crew lost sight of the 747. At about 1700 feet the crew received a "clear of conflict" advisory. No injuries and no damage occured in the occurrence. A NTSB air traffic control specialist is travelling to Anchorage to begin the investigation.
