At 20:30 hours local time on 28 March, lights will be turned off for one hour all around the world. The hour is Earth Hour and is organised by the Worldwide Fund for Nature (WWF). KLM will play its part and KLM staff can join in too. By turning of the lights for an hour the WWF and participants in Earth Hour aim to give governments a clear signal that it’s time they began to take real steps to stop climate change and to reduce CO2 emissions. KLM is supporting this action because KLM it is working with the Netherlands branch of the WWF to reduce CO2. And because KLM places great importance on corporate social responsibility.
HOW CAN YOU JOIN IN? – All KLM employees are being asked to take part in Earth Hour. If you are at home on Saturday 28 March, turn the lights off between 20:30 and 21.30 hours and show that you are concerned about climate change. Since the first Earth Hour was held in 2007, the list of participants around the world has grown to 1,700 cities. This is a major success for an event, which will be held for only the third time this year. Cities taking part in Earth Hour turn off the lights in their public buildings: the Eiffel Tower, Buckingham Palace and the Sydney Opera House will all fall dark at 20:30. Amsterdam and Rotterdam will also cast buildings into darkness, including the Westerkerk and Euromast. What will you do?
