A Merpati Nusantara Boeing 737-300, registration PK-MDE performing flight MZ-836 from Sorong to Manokwari (Indonesia) with 97 passengers and 6 crew, overran runway 35 while landing at Manokwari in rain and mist at approx 11:00L (02:00Z) and came to a stop in a river about 170 meters past the end of the runway (2000 meters long). Two passengers received critical injuries, one person serious injuries (fractured bones) , 20 more people received minor injuries, all injured were taken to two local hospitals. The airplane received substantial damage, the fuselage broke up in two parts.
Merpati Nusantara confirmed, that their Boeing 737-300 PK-MDF (note MDF not MDE) skidded off the runway and ended up in the adjacent river broken up in two parts. About 20 people were taken to two local hospitals.
Indonesian Aviation Sources say, that both cockpit crew members are experienced captains and instructors. None of the cockpit and cabin crew received injuries. Two passengers received critical injuries, one received serious injuries (fractured bones) and 20 received minor injuries.
