ZitatAlles anzeigenTrue Winds/Temps Aloft data ... Using the GRIB data from the NOAA site.
We will also be downloading and extracting the upper winds data from the GRIB files since NOAA only covers the USA.
Shouldn't be too long now, today's upgrade was one of the precursors
getting ready for the true wind forecast data (because we use detailed
and varied weather we had to sort out the wind smoothing and
stabilisation first, in doing so identifying three separate wind
handling bugs within FSX). but that is sorted now and we have introduced
the greyed out option for true winds in the Weather - Downloads dialog.
We are also just about ready for the Weather Smoothing upgrade a little
later as well.Regards

ZitatAlles anzeigenGeneral Update ...
Work is proceeding very well on the new Beta Version 2.50.0 which includes the following additions and enhancements.
The
Local Weather Report window will now distinguish between Light and the
new Very Light rain/snow intensities. Reported drizzle, small hail/snow
pellets, snow grains, and ice pellets will now result in Very Light
precipitation. Similar conditions will be assumed with reported light
rain/snow when there is little cloud cover.
There
are now options to specify the destination and two alternate airfield
designations within the Weather dialog. New destination, 1st Alternate,
and 2nd Alternate Weather Report windows have been added to provide
accurate weather reports for the user's specified destination and two
alternate airfields. These reports can be used in place of ATIS and are
accurate out to the edge of the weather map (over 300 miles out). The
ICAO codes and where appropriate the station names are now listed within
each of the four weather report windows.
The
pressure stabilisation improved between successive weather updates in an
attempt to prevent problems flying the PMDG MD-11 and similar aircraft.
Some new recovery conditions have been added and the weather smoothing
has been relaxed for the areas surrounding the specified destination and
alternate airfields.
The OpusWeather.txt file is no longer updated during METAR file imports and so it can even be imported itself.A separate 'Update
Weather' button has been added to the Weather dialog, the OK button
will no longer force an update of the weather and can now be used to
just save any changes, such as any new destination or alternate airfield
designations. The maximum weather update distance is now limited to
160km.
The specified destination and alternate
airfield weather is now updated automatically without the need to
constantly download new METAR reports. These automatic updates ensure
compliance with the current downloaded METAR reports at these locations.
This is ideally suited to all flyers, low and slow, and high and fast
types. Just remember to configure your destination and alternates and
leave the rest to the LWE.
A forced recovery
altitude has been added (default 8000 feet) to allow full recovery of
the reported surface winds after wind stabilisation and during the final
descent phase.
We are hoping to release the new beta either tomorrow or over the weekend.
Regards
StephenP.S. Refering to the above list ...
Wind smoothing - Improved and now excludes destination and alternate airfields.
Wind Stabilisation - recovery improved with forced recovery option at lower altitude.
Inaccuracies of FSX wind direction - will sort this out in the futture when we map the globe.
No recent weather update - now done all automatically for your destination and alternates.
No destination ICAO code specified - that's up to you but you can edit without generating new weather.
We're getting there ...

This
is beta zero of a new development cycle aimed at providing an exact
match between real world METARs and locations within FSX. For those of
you that asked, well I think you will find your early xmas presents have
been included.

We
are now working on improving the visibility layering, both coordinating
the vis layers at higher altitudes across the weather map and trying to
improve both the fog, mist and overcast effects. We are also looking to
improve the appearance of all high level clouds, altostratus and
altocumulus. These changes will be included in the next beta in this
cycle.

Looks like the xmas present didn't come with batteries .
Corrected the problem and also extended the search for your specified

The
automatic disable update on approach feature is now disabled whenever
the distance to your specified target airfield is greater than 16km. The
new weather report window content has been improved and an (m) marker
is now attached to airfields that are also METAR sites. Stabilised winds
are now marked (Static) within the weather report windows. The default
weather update is now 30 minutes and 80km. This beta is just about ready
for release now.

Stephen
P.S.
We
are still working on improving and coordinating the visibility layering
and attempting to improve the appearance of fog and mist effects, along
with the high level cloud formations.
Please use
the weather report windows, these reports provide ideal long distance
ATIS reports accurate to over 300 miles. It is still possible to
experience wind shifts, more minor shifts at low level now, after the
surface winds have been recovered. We are hoping to combat these as we
introduce more automated weather insertion at various altitudes, this is
moving closer towards the weather smoothing feature to be fully
introduced at a later date.
Also we are confident
of being able to elliminate many of the remaining abrupt changes in
weather patterns after we implement the second phase of improvements
for the WINTER (Weather Interpolation) algorithm and introduce full
weather smoothing.

This version marks the start of the beta development cycle for the World Wide GRIB Upper Winds and Temperature Forecast data option. This beta also includes a new Upper Atmosphere Weather Report option. When enabled, temperature and wind targets will be set for flight levels FL120 through to FL450. The surface and FL120 through to FL420 targets are displayed within the Upper Atmosphere weather report along with the Tropopause forecast data (height, temp, and winds).
Please note, the world wide GRIB data forecasting cycles are updated less frequently than the North American specific (USA) forecasts. A future update may see us access a variety of GRIB forecast data depending on your current Lat/Lon coordinates, but for now the world-wide data will be used as the sole source of GRIB forecasts. The GRIB forecast cycle date and Zulu time code is displayed in the Upper Atmosphere Weather Report window.
All weather reports now have an added Live, Imported, or Disabled indication in the title line. Part of the wind and pressure smoothing has been disabled below 8000 feet AGL. The delay used between switching weather report windows has been increased to prevent FSX from ignoring the display request. FSX is no longer paused when opening the weather dialog. The weather smoothing dialog defaults are now set at 30 degrees and 30 knots instead of 45.
Regards
Stephen
P.S.
It takes some time to download the GRIB forecast data, you can follow the process in the Spy window. The LWE will only download the GRIB data when it determines the current data is out of date with a new more accurate forecast cycle available. On most occasions the GRIB data will remain valid from anywhere between 4 and 10 hours. If a new forecast cycle becomes relevent the LWE will download the new GRIB forecast. In future we may be able to speed up the download but I hope you will find it is not too great an inconvenience and be happy for now to just wait for the download.

In this version the LWE will search for the most recent world-wide GRIB cycle data and employs a much faster and improved method of download, access and data extraction. The downloaded GRIB data file is now assumed to be invalid when 6 or more hours have ellapsed since the file's last forecast cycle time.
